Rob Sayer, founder and director of The Music Class, is a music educator who has taught at the college, high school, middle school and preschool levels. He received his Bachelor of Music Performance and Master of Music Education Degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and also studied at the Juilliard School. He started his career as a trumpet player and enjoyed performing in pit orchestras for Broadway and off Broadway shows and with the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in South Africa. Since moving to Atlanta, as a freelance musician he had the opportunity to play with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Brass Quintet, and numerous jazz ensembles.
Realizing that early childhood was the most important time in music development, Rob decided to leave his position as a school band director (after spending 12 years in that role) in order to work with young children. He looked for fresh materials for an early childhood music class, and not being able to find anything with the kind of quality, variety and fun spirit he wanted, he decided to create his own music. The result was that in 1998 Rob created the TMC Music Pups® curriculum - writing, arranging and recording the songs on our CDs. Since that time The Music Class has taken off, with over 1700 children in our classes in metro-Atlanta and over 190 teaching centers world wide.
Rob is proud to have created The Music Class with the assistance of his wife Michele and children Raina and Brian. Raina composed many of our most popular songs, starting when she was 8, and Brian has enjoyed singing on our CDs since the age of 2. Rob is also thankful to the wonderful teachers whose expertise and passion have contributed to the success of The Music Class.
